Standard Endorsement Process

If you are a first time candidate or are seeking election to a different office than one you currently hold, this is the process to follow.

  1. Download, complete and return a 2008 Candidate Questionnaire for your applicable office you are seeking.  There are multiple questionnaires this year, so please make sure you download the correct one.

  2. The Screening Committee will review your questionnaire in advance of your required screening.

  3. Screen before the Stonewall DFL Committee.

  4. Receive a ranking by the Committee.  The Stonewall DFL screening committee will meet without you give you a ranking on the questionnaire submitted and in-person screening answers.  Both rankings will count with equal weight.  (See Rankings and Descriptions below)   The committee may also recommend a single candidate for endorsement to the Board of Directors to act upon at their next meeting.

  5. You will be contacted by the Political Support Committee Chair about your ranking and whether you were recommended to the Board for endorsement.

  6. At the next Board of Directors Meeting, your district race will be added to the Agenda in order of largest region by population.  Attendance is optional, but you are encouraged to be present and will be given a time limited opportunity to speak.  During this meeting, any active Stonewall DFL member will also be given a chance to discuss your candidacy/record and make recommendations to the Board of Directors on whether to make an endorsement in your district.   A non-binding, straw ballot may be taken by the membership during this time to provide the Board of Directors with additional information prior to making an endorsement decision.

  7. If the board votes to endorse and it passes, you will be asked to sign a statement indicating that you clearly understand the usage requirements of Stonewall DFL.  The Stonewall DFL Endorsement is valid upon signature of this agreement and can be used according to our rules.

Expedited Endorsement Process

If you have received the Stonewall DFL Endorsement in the past for the same office you are seeking and are running uncontested by the questionnaire submission deadline you are eligible to waive the candidate screening process and seek endorsements directly from the Stonewall DFL Board of Directors.  The process is below:

  1. Download, complete, and return a 2008 Candidate Questionnaire for the applicable office you are seeking before the published deadline.  There are multiple questionnaires this year, so please make sure you download the correct one and submit it ahead of the correct deadline.

  2. The Screening Committee will review your questionnaire.

  3. Screen before the Stonewall DFL Committee (optional).  Based on your answers to the questions and voting record you will receive a ranking.  (See Rankings and Descriptions below)  Only those with a ranking of A or B are eligible for Endorsement by the Board of Directors.

  5. If the board votes to endorse and it passes, you will be asked to sign a statement indicating that you clearly understand the usage requirements of Stonewall DFL.  The Stonewall DFL Endorsement is valid upon signature of this agreement and can be used according to our rules.
